Obama – Chavez Exchange: Irresponsible or Insightful

At the Summit of the Americas President Obama met with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez this past Friday; and has received criticism from a number of conservative leaders, including Senator John Ensign, R-Nev, who charged him with being irresponsible; during an interview with CNN .   Those types of attacks, when you consider the sources, are certainly understandable.  Of course, that doesn’t validate the legitimacy of the criticism. In fact, considering the sources, it explains why we are our country is in the current condition it is in.  I can’t give President Obama credit for having a lot of foreign policy or military experience to help guide him. However, I believe he is fairly well read; and probably has read the masterpiece military treatise, “The Art of War,” by SunTzu.  By the same token, I am speculating Senator Ensign never took the time to pick the book up; and obviously is not familiar with the military commander’s writings, Taoist strategy, or some of the famous Sun Tzu quotes, such as, “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”  Great military leaders throughout history have recognized this military masterpiece and likewise, history shows where those who read it and understood the philosophy realized great success in their military endeavors.  Never having served in the military himself , Senator Ensign is probably not the most qualified person to openly criticize the Commander in Chief in areas he apparently lacks exposure, pertinent knowledge and experience. That is not to say that if the President Obama’s Portuguese water dog should get sick, that Senator Ensign is probably more qualified than the President to address matters of that nature. I may be giving the President more credit than due. However, based upon the actions I am of the belief that insightful is a more appropriate way to describe his meeting with President Chavez than to describe it as irresponsible.
